Raw eggs?

[edit]

"[...] and was reported to have eaten raw eggs [...]"

Does anyone have any sources for this as (everyone should know) eating raw eggs will give you salmonella? If she did, she wouldn't have been filming the movie. --Kilo-Lima 17:06, 11 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I think it's in Mark Kermode's BBC documentary that was also included on the UK DVD (don't know about elsewhere). And raw eggs do not automatically give you salmonella. There'd be a lot of very sick bodybuilders in the world if that was true. Cardinal Wurzel 20:36, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

was this every real?

Or completly made up?

Dumoren 08:59, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Browse through this. He makes it clear that the original kid just wanted attention, that a "shaking bed" isn't too hard to do when it has rollers, and that the priests weren't really there with the kid the whole time.

Trivia

Hi, does the trivia section contain any info added by the edit above? I find some of the bits difficult to believe. (Rome?) --Kjoonlee 04:55, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The "You Bet Your Life" thing

[edit]

According to Blatty's article, it says he won $500; here, it says $10,000. The citation only mentions the incident as an urban legend - can anyone find a reliable source, or get rid of it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.14.72.182 (talk) 22:46, August 24, 2007 (UTC)

they made a movie out of it

[edit]

the article's text should say that the book was adapted for film & that the film was a hit, etc. it's not enough to have the link to the film article up top —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.22.13.29 (talk) 04:03, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

she loooks weird —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.14.15.77 (talk) 01:58, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And of course the book only became popular AFTER the movie came out. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.215.115.31 (talk) 18:45, 11 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not so. The Exorcist was on the NY Times best seller list for 57 weeks when it was released in 1971. The movie was released in 1973. Mirapoix (talk) 23:50, 11 August 2010 (UTC)S Solimene[reply]

Why isn't there a section summarizing the movie adaptation? Other articles do, and "The Exorcist" is pretty notable. -- Jodon | Talk 11:56, 3 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki 'Plot' is reaching

[edit]

Regarding the last sentence of the plot, the writer of the wiki section is reaching to assume Karras gave his life to save Regan's. I refer to pgs. 390-393, and the epilogue of the original editions (also errrored is the book info-the original edition is 403 pages. Current editions, with isbn numbers, may have different page numbers). There is not even a suggestion that Karras went out the window to save Regan. In fact, Kinderman toys with the idea that he committed suicide because he has gone mad with stress and guilt of the possession and the death of his mother. In the movie, there is a last scene between Karras and Regan/Devil that does not exist in the book. This scene shows the spirit leaving Regan and possessing Karras. The book explains Karras entering her room, finding Merrin, and then the scene changes to Chris in the living room. The next time the book discusses Karras, he's on the sidewalk. Either your copy was missing several pages, or was a poor-quality bootleg, or you didn't comprehend the ending. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 104.169.16.115 (talk) 02:45, 14 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Cover pic?

[edit]

I've always wondered: just what the heck is that thing on the cover of the novel? Is it supposed to be the demon? SJ2571 (talk) 21:05, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like it's supposed to be the possessed girl to me (I can't look at it too long, it gives me the creeps). She's upside down, and like she's laying down looking up at you. Xprivate eyex (talk) 11:05, 19 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A Greek Jesuit priest?

[edit]

D. Karras is Greek and a Jesuit priest? Most Greeks are orthodox. It's very unlikely for a Greek to become a Jesuit priest. Of course, this is fiction, but it seems like there was a mistake in Blatty's research. Did he ever talk about that?--87.184.133.205 (talk) 10:40, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

First off, the priest is an American of Greek descent. Secondly, there are many Greek Roman Catholics. "Highly unlikely" is just a personal opinion.104.169.16.37 (talk) 12:22, 5 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There are definitely not "many" Greek Roman Catholics. About 100.000 Catholic Greeks compared to 25.000.000 Orthodox Greeks is quite a difference. And that's not a personal opinion. Anyway, that wasn't even the point. I was asking about Blatty talking about using a Catholic Greek priest. So keep calm.--2003:EE:3F17:E376:5ED:2703:357:2B12 (talk) 21:18, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't think "100,000" people is a lot, try cleaning up after them at a football game. The editor was very calm, and answered you quite correctly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 104.169.16.115 (talk) 02:47, 14 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
